Services available from the IHS Team are summarized below:
OSHA Audits/Inspections::
Risk Assessments:
Exposure Monitoring for Chemicals, Asbestos, Lead and other Metals/Organics: Personal and area
monitoring of workplace exposures to hazardous airborne contaminants to evaluate compliance with OSHA and/or facility requirements.
Industrial Noise Assessments: Occupational noise exposure is a compliance issue that is often
overlooked. Exposure to occupational noise may be found in a variety of work environments and the effects of prolonged or high exposure are often irreversible. Environmental Risk Management, Inc.'s team of professional Industrial Hygienists can
design and implement a comprehensive Noise Exposure Assessment to determine exposure levels and insure regulatory compliance. A Noise Exposure Assessment will be designed to meet your specific needs. An Assessment includes:
- Environmental Survey - A preliminary sampling to determine areas which may have occupational noise exposure
problems will be performed.
- Sampling Strategy Development - A personnel monitoring strategy is developed using the data collected in the
Environmental Survey. This insures exposure sampling is performed during optimum productivity on personnel who may be overexposed to occupational noise.
- Personnel Exposure Monitoring - Representative employees are then monitored for an entire shift to determine
actual, time weighted and peak exposure levels.
- Data Evaluation - Monitoring results are evaluated designating areas of concern.
- Hearing Conservation Program - If required by OSHA (based on exposure monitoring results) a hearing conservation
program will be developed and implemented. Program includes audiometric testing*, employee notification, employee training and the development of a easy-to-use record keeping system.
*E.R.M.I. has the capabilities to provide and
coordinate on-site audiometric testing; saving you time and money.
OSHA Employee Training Programs Employee training as required by OSHA regulations, performed at the
client's facility. Below is a partial list of courses offered by Construction Services International, Inc.
- 40-hour HAZWOPER (OSHA 1910.120)
- 8-hour HAZWOPER refresher course (1910.120)
- Process Safety Management (OSHA 1910.119)
- Confined Space Entry (OSHA 1910.146)
- Lockout/Tagout (OSHA 1910.147)
- Fall Protection (OSHA 1926.104)
- Personal Protective Equipment (OSHA 1910.132)
- Right to Know (OSHA 1910.1200)
Site-Specific OSHA Written Programs : Workplace programs that are designed to improve the health, safety,
and performance of employees while reducing risks and absenteeism as well as lowering workers compensation expenses.

Indoor Air Quality Investigations: Are you concerned about sick building syndrome? Does your facility
have potential indoor air pollution sources, such as volatile organic compounds and microorganisms? Common porous materials (such as ceiling tile, styrene, fiberglass, wood, etc.) are convenient places for the accumulation of disease-causing
pollutants. Duct work in your home or office provides air circulation, but is full of mold, mildew, dust and bacteria. With today's building standards, homes and offices are now practically air tight, providing no circulation of air in modern
buildings. Environmental Risk Management, Inc.'s Indoor Air Quality specialists evaluate indoor air quality and make specific recommendations on how to improve your work environment.
- Preliminary Investigations and Assessment of Potential Contaminants
- Sampling for Total Particulate, Volatile Organic Contaminants (VOCs), and Biological Sampling
- Evaluate Temperature, Relative Humidity, Carbon Monoxide, Ventilation and Air Movement
- Evaluation of Sampling Results for Compliance with OSHA and other Regulatory guidelines
- Recommend Engineering Controls for the Improvement of Indoor Air Quality
Accident Investigation: Incidents include accidents and near misses/hits. Do you currently learn from
incidents to prevent recurrences and to reduce the likelihood of other incidents with the same root causes? Because most employers do not, Environmental Risk Management, Inc. uses an effective strategy for investigating incidents of any magnitude.
Environmental Risk Management, Inc.'s first step to categorize the incident according to its impact, complexity, regulatory exposure and so on. Categorizing the incident is meaningful for numerous reasons, including your need to approximate the
proficiency level of the investigation team and the investigation resources with the incident to be investigated. Having an incident investigation program in place, before an incident occurs, will make it easier to assemble an investigation team and
will provide the team the provisions and administrative assistance essential to help control pre- and post- incident activities. It also helps ensure the consistency of investigations. If you do not currently have an incident investigation program
in place, Environmental Risk Management, Inc. can help select an appropriate team; and we can either help your company develop an incident investigation program or conduct independent, third party investigations on your behalf. Interviewing skills
are primary for gathering critical data from people. Crucial information can also be discovered by examining equipment components, chemicals/residues, computer files, and written logs/documents. After collecting all valid data (by interviewing,
reviewing records, examining/analyzing physical evidence, etc.), the next step is analyzing the data. Analysis during an investigation is usually a three-part procedure. Finally, having determined the what, how and why of an incident, the team can
proceed to the considerable responsibility of developing recommendations to prevent a recurrence. Recommendations are always based on the facts of the case. The recommendations will be feasible and address root causes.
OSHA Voluntary Protection Program : The VPP is a voluntary program sponsored by OSHA and industry that
recognizes effective safety practices, including process safety management. Within VPP, a "Star" rating indicates the highest level of worker safety practices in all aspects measured by the program, while a "Merit" rating indicates sound practices
with specific qualifications. Facilities obtaining Star status are not subject to OSHA programmatic inspection (although they may still inspect as a result of an accident). EPA is also considering participation in this program.
Fit Testing: Qualitative and quantitative respirator fit testing.
Consulting Services : Auditing and recommendations for compliance with OSHA regulations. Assistance with
development of facility-specific written compliance programs.
Emergency Response Disaster Planning and Consulting : Custom-design a plan to provide guidance when an
emergency occurs.
Emergency Response Management Team : A program with an expanded team that is tailored to emergency
situations such as: oil spills, facility incidents, chemical releases, etc.
